Han Hua International Chinese Institute Hosts "Chinese Language Teaching in the AI
Era" Seminar

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Han Hua International ChineseInstitute, in collaboration with the Fo Guang Self-Learning Center, hosted the academic seminar “Challenges andOpportunities of Chinese Language Teaching in the Age of AI” on October5, 2024. The event was held at the Sun Yunxuan Science and Humanities Memorial Hall in Taipei, drawing Chinese language teaching experts and scholars from
across the country. The seminar explored the impact of artificial intelligence (AI) on Chinese language education and guided educators in breaking traditional teaching frameworks to discover innovative methods and learning strategies.

Since its founding in 2004, Han Hua International Chinese Institute hasremained committed to its mission of promoting the internationalization of Chinese and developing innovative teaching approaches. The institute has provided professional teacher training and learning resources to countless educators and learners. Over the past 20 years, it has steadily grown and expanded globally, forming close collaborations with major academic institutions to promote the diverse development of Chinese language education.

In his opening remarks, CEO Chu Jiachen of Han Hua International ChineseInstitute stated, “Over the past two decades, we have witnessed a transformation in Chinese language teaching—from traditional methods to the integration of digital tools—and now we face the revolutionary potential of AI. This seminar not only showcases our academic achievements but also sets a course for the future of Chinese language teaching in the AI era.”

The seminar was divided into two main sessions and covered a range oftopics, including AI-assisted instruction, research on reading comprehension, and the development and application of digital learning platforms. Professors and scholars from Tamkang University, Tunghai University, Chung Yuan Christian University, Fo Guang University, Kainan University, Taipei City University of Science and Technology, and Huanggang Normal University participated alongside experts from Han Hua International Chinese Institute. Each contributed valuable insights on the challenges and opportunities of AI in language teaching.

CEO Chu Jiachen also delivered a presentation titled “Love in the Red Dust,” which focusedon emotional education in Chinese language instruction and introduced innovative teaching models through real-life case studies. Chu, who emphasizes the importance of traditional Chinese arts such as calligraphy and ink painting in language education, expressed a desire to see Chinese calligraphy flourish worldwide. The seminar featured a keynote speech by Mr. Yang Xutang, Chairman of the Chinese Calligraphy Association, on “The Application of Technology in Calligraphy for Chinese Language Teaching.”

The accomplishments of Han Hua International Chinese Institute over thepast 20 years have set a benchmark in the field of Chinese language education. The successful seminar marked not only a celebration of past achievements but also a bold step toward a more innovative and global future.
